— 01 Venetian plaster

Venetian plaster and polished plaster, applied in thin, patient layers.

Marmorino, polished plaster, travertino and softly textured lime plasters. Mineral finishes that change with the light, age gracefully, and feel like part of the building rather than a coat on top of it.

— 02 A note before we begin

Venetian plaster can't be rushed or rolled. It's built in thin layers; each one trowelled, dried, sanded and burnished before the next. We mention this early because the preparation, drying time and number of passes matter for the way the finish settles in.

We do this work in-house. No subcontracting the specialist plaster finish to another team mid-job.

— 03 The finishes

The polished plaster family, finish by finish.

A short tour. Each finish is a different lime-based material with a different way of catching the light.

Quietly elegant

Marmorino

A traditional Italian lime plaster, polished smooth. Soft, satin sheen; subtle cloud-like movement; warm to the touch. Reads as quietly elegant rather than shiny. The finish people often choose when they want a wall to feel considered without it announcing itself.

The deep one

Polished plaster Stucco Veneziano

Multiple thin coats, burnished by hand and sealed with wax. Deepest finish in the family; near-mirror sheen on the high points; remarkable depth at close range. The classic Italian Venetian plaster. Best read in raking light, around a lamp, or at the end of a hallway.

Stone-like texture

Travertino

Imitates the stone of the same name, with horizontal striations and an open, mineral surface. Quiet, architectural, suits modern rooms and old houses equally. Excellent on feature walls and around fireplaces, where the texture catches shadow.

Textured plasters

Sand, micro-granular and brushed plasters, used where you want subtle surface interest without a high polish. Often the right answer for hallways, stairwells and walls where a too-perfect finish would feel sterile.

— 04 On samples

We make sample boards, to test in your light.

We prepare sample boards rather than testing directly on your wall. Where useful, we can make several boards with different tones, sheens or textures, then hold them in the room so you can see how the finish behaves beside your flooring, furniture and natural light.

We don't ask you to commit to a finish from a paint chip. The point of sampling is to narrow the colour, sheen and movement before the full wall is started, without leaving test patches on the surface.

Not sure which finish fits?

We can bring samples, look at the light in the room, and talk through the difference between a quiet mineral finish, a polished plaster wall and something more textured.

— 05 Where they suit

Where polished plaster works well.

A practical guide to the rooms and surfaces where the depth, sheen and texture of plaster earn their keep.

— 01

Living rooms & drawing rooms

Good for feature walls, chimney breasts and quieter whole-room schemes where the finish can catch changing natural light.

— 02

Hallways & stairwells

Useful where a flat painted wall would feel plain, but strong colour or pattern would be too much for a narrow space.

— 03

Bedrooms & bathrooms

Possible in the right areas with the right sealer. We will talk through humidity, ventilation and maintenance before recommending it.

From a client review
The finish still looks as fresh as the day it was completed.
